It is with much sadness that we report the sudden passing away of Keith Shaw. A key member of The Anglers’ squad, Keith proved himself to be an excellent player who was not only a tough opponent, but was also extremely gracious in defeat.
Keith played in the Hollins Pool League for quite a number of years, beginning with the title-winning New Moston British Legion side before moving on to The Anglers. Not only was he a very popular team mate, he was also a much liked and respected friend to many throughout the league, and will be sorely missed by those that had the pleasure to know him.

Please remember that we have a meeting on Wed 2nd May at The Golden Buck (8.30pm). Once again, it coincides with the Champions League semi, but the room we are using has a TV, and it is hoped that the meeting will take place during half time. All signing-on sheets must be in at this meeting.

Firstly, I'll start with a rant...... At the pre-season registration (which some teams couldn't be bothered turning up to) I said that we needed to urgently get sponsorship and a minimum of 14 teams before setting a concrete start date for 2007 and asked for assistance in both areas. After assurances that people would do what they could to get sponsors and further teams in, I have since received telephone calls totalling.................er, NONE! - Thank you for your efforts. Those people who are quick to demand committee action for no effort of their own will be pleased to hear that I have since secured substantial sponsorship, for which I am hoping to sign an agreement tonight. Further good news is that another committee member (Paul Lambert), despite being housebound for three weeks with a serious chest infection, has managed to bring in another one - possibly two - new teams. We are hoping for confirmation tonight. Notice the common denominator? Our useless committee doing all the spadework again..... So, rant over, we can now concentrate on getting the league running. Subject to the new teams and sponsorship being finalised tonight, we can start the season on 12th March or 19th. The season will now last until next February with a 3 week break over Christmas, and two fixture breaks at peak summer holiday times. Fixtures and rules etc. will be dropped off at pubs shortly, and the first league meeting will be at the Golden Buck on Wed 4th April. Opening fixtures will also be posted on this website. This year, we have no intention of letting any problems hamper the running of the league, and are not prepared to start without 100% certainty that it will be smoothly and successfully run. If this doesn't suit anyone, please address your complaints to those people whose promises of assistance never materialised.

Due to a lack of response in some areas, the start date of the league has now been put back to March 12th. Until we can be sure of operating with a minimum of 14 teams and have sponsorship in place it would not be wise to commit ourselves.
Sponsorship negotiations are underway, and no problems are anticipated. However, no new teams have confirmed their interest as yet, and it is hoped that members of the league can assist the Committee in finding two or more new teams.
Please watch this page for further developments

JULY MEETING

The only absentees this month were the Smut, who will be dealt with as per the league rules. The Smut will contest any decision as they insist they left messages at both the Lark and Brit informing of their absence in advance.

AUGUST MEETING
The decision was made to award a 4-3 win to the Golden Buck in respect of their complaint against the Smut (Late arrival). Delegates at the meeting were made aware that late results / missing result cards etc will no longer be tolerated and will be dealt with as per the league rules guidelines. It has been mentioned that some people have not been made aware of their Individuals knockout dates. It was agreed earlier in the season that all info would be posted on this site in plenty of time, and it is up to the teams to ensure one of their players reads the site regularly and passes the info on.

SEPTEMBER MEETING
As agreed by all delegates at the August meeting, The Britannia ‘A’ have been deducted the six points gained in their fixture vs The Lark due to no result being phoned in. A fine of £5 was also imposed
The Houghton ‘B’ have been deducted 5 points plus a £5 fine for non attendance at the September meeting.
Although I have not received any confirmation so far, it has been brought to my attention that the Britannia have withdrawn their sponsorship of the league in response to their 6 point deduction. Should this be the case, and I think it very unlikely, then the October meeting will be held at the Lark (Teams will be contacted if the meeting is reverted back to the Britannia). Any sponsorship withdrawal will of course affect the amount of prize money available at the end of the season.
